The Cheapest Netbook with Intel Atom N280

September 4th, 2009 David 2 comments

Well most netbooks manufacturers are still using Intel Atom N270 as the heart of the netbook, many have already released the new generation netbook with Atom N280 as the processor. The price of the netbooks with Atom N280, however, is much more expensive than the mainstream N270 netbooks ($400 vs. $300).Today I noticed that the netbooks with Intel Atom N280 could be as low as $230 in China.

You would never expect a netbook with Intel Atom N280 sold at $230 but it is true in China. The so called “Shanzai” netbooks offer extremely low prices compared to the major brand manufacturer like Dell or Lenovo ($200 vs. $400!). Especially at Shenzhen where the Shanzai netbooks are very popular, you can easily grab a cheap netbook with decent configuration (with Intel Atom N270, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD et al). While most Shanzai netbook manufacturer are trying to bring down the cost of mainstream N270 based netbooks, the Guobang Xingye Electronic Co. is launching Atom N280 based netbooks with competitive price at about $230! I can guarantee that this is the cheapest netbook with Intel Atom N280 so far.

Basic specs of this netbook:

  • Intel Atom N280
  • 10.1″ TFT (1024*600) display
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 160 HDD
  • Wifi
  • webcam
  • 3-cell Li-Ion Battery

They also offer 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD and 6-cell Li-Ion battery as options. There are also many colors to choose from.

Sony VAIO W Netbook

August 30th, 2009 David No comments

sony vaio wSony VAIO W is the first official netbook launched in July 2009. Priced at $499, it is really a nice netbook. But it comes with only standard netbook features which you can find on MSI, ASUS, or Acer netbooks. Why would you want to pay more money for a similar product?

Here are two things I can imagine:

1. Intel Atom N280 processor

2. 10.1″ 1366×768 resolution LCD screen

Other than that, I can not find any reason to buy a $500 machine which can be replaced by a $300 one.
